Wow - 13m Jubilee table

Oh my days, you do not realize how much you miss your bed until you spend several nights away from it. So last night I snuggled down and slept solidly until 8 o'clock this morning, result.

Today has been a mixture of heavy rain and sunshine which has not boded well for the street decorating team who wanted to get started today putting up the bunting for the weekend.

Of course when I came back yesterday my inbox had hundreds of emails in it, and that is why I don't have the emails chanelled through my phone like my children do haha.

So back to Ely. On one of the days we spent time looking around the Cathedral. It is such a beautiful place to visit. The stained glass and architecture is stunning. On display in the cathedral we were lucky enough to see the Jubilee table. It is enormous and was made from one piece of bog oak. The bog oak was around 5,000 years old and held hundreds of litres of water when it was dug up. The table which was unveiled at the beginning of this month to celebrate the queens Platinum Jubilee is 43 ft long (13m), it was created from black oak, found buried and preserved in a field at Wissington Fen, Norfolk, in 2012, Specialists have spent 10 years crafting the piece of furniture. The last picture in this set is the table but to be honest the photo doesn't do it justice.

On the way home from Ely my train was delayed as the train ahead of us had struck a tree, and the track had to be inspected for damage. So we sat on the track for 40 minutes which means that I can claim back the cost of my ticket - yay.

Now this is what I call dedication haha. My gardener Ian came this afternoon to reshape my hedges etc, (I was going to be very risky and say he was trimming my bush, but decided on reshaping my hedge haha) well he got a good start on the privet hedge but as he started to reshape the forsythia bush the heavens opened and rain stopped play for 30 minutes. But he persevered and continued the trimming even though it was still raining.

So you can imagine with the rain and two removal vans in the street parked were we would be putting up the bunting the street flags have not gone up today. It doesn't really matter as long as they are up for the weekend.
