Good morning everyone.
One of my lovely readers from South Africa messaged me this morning to say how much she was enjoying the adventures at The Jungalow. She also asked how the Jungalow got its name, so if you wouldn't mind indulging me I will explain. Maybe some of you didn't know anyway. Okay, here goes. I have always liked the idea of naming a house. When Dave was alive he wouldn't hear of it, something along the lines of being too presumptive.
So when I first bought the bungalow I was determined to name it, it being my baby and mine alone. Anyway, I toyed with Dot's Spot, Dot's, Chez Dot even Chez Hullah, but nothing seemed to work. Long story short, my youngest grandson took to calling it the Jungalow as he had misheard me when I was talking to his mum about the new bungalow. Well, that name struck a chord with me and the jungalow was born.
I now have t-shirts with Jungalow Crafts printed on for when I do craft fayres, there is my house sign and even the postman and my neighbours refer to the bungalow as the Jungalow - I think I have achieved my naming efforts, my work here is done lol.
The other thing that I have started to do since moving in is to hang seasonal wreaths. I used to hang Christmas ones at my other house but I loved the American idea of having a wreath on the door all year round, just changing it for the seasons. I have about 7 different seasonal wreaths now hanging in my store cupboard. So Easter saw the Easter bunny and her eggs and now we have moved onto the cocktail umbrellas ( How to make this particular one is on the Tutorial page) Later on in the summer I have a lovely floral one which will give way to Autumn Leaves and then a Halloween one before we are back to Christmas. Surprisingly the trend to hang year-round wreaths seems to be taking off as many houses around me are now sporting them all the time.
End of Day seven in the Kitchen reno games. Good progress has been made today as the final push was launched at 8.30 this morning to get the room ready for the plasterer tomorrow.
It makes more sense to me now when the ceiling is up and covering the rafters, as I can see where the lights are going to be when the ceiling is finished. The bay window area has been insulated for the first time and I am sure that that is going to make a great difference. Historically the dining room was always a good few degrees cooler than the rest of the jungalow.
Even though the door to the new kitchen has been kept closed at all times there is a fine layer of dust everywhere. How do I know this, well you can see it and of course I have been sneezing for England with the dust in the air. So I for one will be pleased when the dirty part is over by the end of the week.
I spent some of this afternoon in the garden. It was quite warm, to be honest. Started pruning shrubs that had been badly affected by the frost and also taking out last years growth on some of the small plants. A long way to go but it is a start.
