What a washout - Day 430

Well, what a monumental washout today has been. It was a lovely first thing but the weather closed down around 10.30 and it has rained ever since.

So the knock-on effect of that is that the gardener could not start today and has postponed until next Tuesday.

My kitchen fitter felt that he needed another day to recover his trip down the stairs so he postponed until tomorrow. Ben called this morning to pick up a computer that Ian had given him, which was a nice start to my morning at least. By mid-afternoon, I realised that Sarah had sent the children to school without coats so I had to go and physically collect them with a suitably large golf umbrella. Shopping with the mother unit was very challenging as she walks very slow and pushing a trolley at the same time is not a good recipe for keeping dry.

One thing that worked out well today was the visit this morning from Ian Johnson who lives in Sleaford on the south coast, he didn't travel up just to visit me for tea, haha, but he is up seeing his 98-year-old dad. We had several cups of tea and put the world to rights and before we knew it 2 hours had flashed by. As the rain was by this time lashing I took him home to his dads. We will be meeting up again tonight to go to the Mowden pub for a meal. Some of our large group of friends that live away and are visiting relations this week and have booked a table for 9 of us to have a meal. Unfortunately, we will be sitting outside under a large marquee, so waterproof and windproof coats and gloves will be in order haha. As I have been writing this blog this afternoon the sky looks a little brighter, maybe we will have a fine evening. But warm clothing will still be the order of the day as our group is 9 and we will still have to sit outside. No doubt there will be a photographic record of said meal on tomorrows blog.

So not a lot to report today only frustration and raindrop dodging, unfortunately.
