Time for a colour change.....

At the beginning of the year, Ben and Nikki asked me if I wouldn't mind tutoring Dominic with his Reading Comprehension ahead of his SATs in May.

Well, we religiously had an hour's session from that time on until his SATs papers in May.

After tutoring, I stayed on and was treated to lovely home-cooked meals.

At first, Dominic found the interrogation of the pieces of work a challenge but as time went on he started to get the hang of it.

This was all we wanted, preparing him to be able to go into the exam with confidence so that he would be able to do his best.

However, fast forward to the actual SATs and the reading comprehension paper was super hard. Many teachers making public comments on the difficulty of the texts and questions. We tried to prepare Dom for perhaps lower marks when he came out of the exam but he was very deflated.

So, imagine my surprise on Thursday last week, when the whole Hullah family rocked up at the Jungalow. I was presented with these beautiful flowers and a thank you card from Dominic. So, what may you ask was the occasion? Well, Dominic had not only passed the reading comprehension test but had aced it. Getting Greater Depth across all SATs papers, which will stand him in good stead when he goes to Woodham in the Autumn.

So the rankings for SATs are as follows:-

  1. NS - Below National Standards

  2. AS - Expected National Standard

  3. GD - Greater Depth

So on Wednesday morning, Sarah came after the school run to apply a home colour to my hair. I had intended to go to the hairdresser just before our holidays, but on reflection, it would have been a waste of money as the sun and chlorine in Cyprus are going to play havoc with my hair anyway.

So the trip to the hairdresser will be made after the holiday to repair the damage. But in the meantime, I had this manic hairdresser (AKA Sarah) applying my colour this morning. I actually love the look which is more my actual colour. The dalliance with colour is shown in the pictures from the last 2 years haha. Think I am done now with outrageous colour.

On Thursday I went out for tea with Sarah, Lee and the boys. We went to the Bridge Inn in Stapleton.

I have to say that the food was lovely, I had Peking Duck as a starter and Salmon with, strangely enough, a poached egg.

I should have stopped there, but, do you know the feeling when something on paper sounds so delicious that you have to give it a try?

Well, this dessert was called Lemon Meringue Mess and promised to deliver all of the yummy lemon flavours I love. Lemon curd, Lemon Coulis crushed lemon meringue and cream obvs. But I have to say I couldn't taste lemon at all and was very disappointed in the whole dessert.

So I was kicking myself for the rest of the night having expended a massive amount of calories on an indulgent dessert for it to fall so very short of the mark.

A month or so ago I planted 3 tomato plants and a pepper plant in a grow bag in my conservatory. The temperatures in there can rocket to over 40 degrees so I thought it was a good idea.

Fast forward to yesterday and I picked the first of my home grown crop of tomotos to put in my lunch time sandwich.

I know they are small but the plants I put in were cherry toms anyway haha. But I have to say they tasted lovely and sweet, so I was well chuffed.

I have 3 green peppers on the pepper plant at the moment but they need to plump up a bit before I pick them.

However, as my annual summer holiday is a little under 2 weeks away I may loose the crop from lack of watering before I return. I may ask my sister Sue to pop in and give them a drink mid way through my holiday.

Last night I was invited for Tea at Ben and Nikkis. She had made pesto bacon and chicken with mash and broccoli, it was delicious. After dinner Ben, Robyn and I played cards for a while.

So as you can see compared to the past few weeks I have had a much quieter week all around, which is a bit of a relief really haha.

PUZZLE CORNER

Now for a bit more brain work my lovelies. Hidden somewhere in this picture of mushrooms is a tiny little mouse......Happy hunting.

Hope you found Yoda amongst the giraffes last week? He was up in the top left corner.
