The Great Gatsby

Since turning 70 last week this meme has become my new mantra.

Well, as you will all be sick to death of hearing it was my big birthday bash at Bannatynes Hotel last Saturday.

The question now is what am I going to do with my time and what is going to go in the blog. Not to worry I will dredge up some appropriate drivel to keep you all amused haha.

I had 65 of my close friends and family, some travelling up to Darlington from the South of the country, to celebrate with me.

We had a brilliant evening with everything going off smoothly.

I have to say the dress code was perfect and I was glad to see that most people had made the effort to dress up in vintage costumes. As you can see from the photos below we did look rather wonderful and sparkly.

Sarah did a sterling job of setting the venue up with Leighton as there was a slight mix-up with the room. The hotel informed us a week out from the party that the room was booked up until 12.30 and it would take them up until 2 to 2.30 to turn it around before we could actually get in and decorate. As Sarah and I had planned to do it in the morning, it did put our plans into a bit of a nose dive. The reason was that my beautifying session, hair, eyelashes etc haha was planned for 2.30 in the afternoon which meant that with the mix-up I couldn't help Sarah out. But I have to say she did marvellously aided and abetted by my youngest grandson Leighton..

The evening started with a drinks reception then after the buffet supper we got down to the serious business of dancing the night away.

On Monday I was off to the Hippodrome to watch Darlington Operatics offering of Kinky Boots, I have to say it was an amazing production worthy of the West End from an amateur group. As the story of Kinky Boots is about the production of shoes for the Gay community the first night was also attended by a large contingent of Darlingtons home-grown Drag Queens.

Sarah and I took Auntie Alice back to Bannatynes Hotel on Wednesday for our lunch. We all had a lovely meal before breaking out the cards on Wednesday night when Sarah and Sue came to play. It was the first time since Mum's passing that we had played cards, so we had to reacquaint ourselves with the rules haha.

This week's brain Teaser - Can you find the lady astronaut hiding amongst the aliens?
