Over the years since David died, I have been making memory bears. These are cuddly reminders of the people we have lost.
Items of clothing from our loved ones are used to make the body parts of the bears. When they are finished I like to include a photograph of the person wearing the items of clothing.
I have made over 30 bears since I started. Most are for friends who know me but recently I have made COVID bears for clients who have lost loved ones to the pandemic. These have been sent mostly to London.
I can make the bears from virtually any item of clothing although shirts seem to be the favourites.
Each bear is given his own box and is snuggled in tissues paper. A suitable poem or sentiment is included in the box along with a spray of homegrown lavender.
A trend that is now developing is the living memory bears. The two central pictures above is a living memory bear that was made from the 25year old PJ's that a mum wanted as a keepsake for her daughter. I have to say the material was very delicate after 25 years and many washes.
