Okay, folks Part 3 of my Southwell trip and the final instalment you will be glad to hear haha. But I think you will agree from the photos that I have had a great weekend and have loved catching up with friends. Giving a flavour of normality in these uncertain times. Also if you are ever in that neck of the woods, it is brilliant for places of interest to see, so who knew that little old Southwell had so much to offer, we didn't.
So this morning I was up on the alarm again needing to get my hair washed and a shower before my kitchen fitter came. He has been here for a good few hours now and my slider cupboard is in and looking fab. He has just left and the only thing left to do in the kitchen is the blinds which will be fitted on Friday.
So we are up to Sunday of the Southwell trip. Today we headed out after breakfast and headed for Nottingham, which is only 14 miles away. The focus of our attention today was the Justice Museum and the City of Caves. The Justice Museum was amazing and shocking at the same time. The depictions of justice and the penal code from 1800 was at times shocking. Even though the Covid restrictions were still in action, the few actors which were dressed up in period costume did add to the experience. Steve found himself in the dock for stealing from Keith and found himself sentenced to be deported to Australia. After the Justice Museum, we walked the short distance to the City of Caves. Apparently, there are 800 caves under Nottingham and were occupied by all manner of trades and used as air-raid shelters during WW2.
On the way back to the car we passed a church which had been tastefully converted into a pub (if that is possible) Although we could not get a seat to have a drinky poo before returning to Southwell we were allowed to have a look at the inside and the refit that they had done.
We returned to the hotel for Sunday lunch which was lovely and then sat in the courtyard of the hotel for the afternoon. We had decided that we would get some M&S snacks as we were not going out for a meal as Sunday lunch was not until later in the day, so we had a picnic in the beer courtyard it was great. Monday morning we had a leisurely breakfast, packed, checked out and said our farewell. Somehow I volunteered to arrange the next trip which is fine by me, gives me something to do haha.
Now just an update on my tenants in my garage. Mr and Mrs Blackbired are now proud parents of 2 chicks. I had no idea that had happened until I went into the garage yesterday and was just expecting to see mum sitting on the nest but was surprised to capture this.
