Solo travels?????

This year I really enjoyed travelling with Sarah, Lee and the boys to Cyprus.

However, I did get the feeling that I was holding them back a little. My mobility coupled with the extreme heat was, to say the least, limiting.

The boys are coming to an age where lying around the pool is no longer on their radar.

I was conscious that Sarah and Lee were trying to keep the boys happy and include me in their daily plans at the same time. Not that easy.

So, on my return, I have made the decision that next year I will go on holiday on my own. I think it is time to venture out into the big world as a solo traveller. With this in mind I have booked a short, test-the-waters, trip to Santorini next July. I will be travelling with a company which caters to Solo travellers, so they have heard it all, i.e. nerves, doubts etc. Of course, I may hate it and then it will most certainly be back to the drawing board, however, I may love it and then the world will be my oyster for as long as I can manage to travel, so watch this space next July.

On Tuesday, I went to one of our closest and may I say, best seaside towns with Sarah and the boys. I went to Whitby. Although the forecast was for good weather we still took layers just in case, it being the North Sea after all. However, when we got there we found the weather beautiful. walking around all day in short-sleeved tops wearing sunglasses. The boys wanted to go crabbing on the keyside. I had seen people doing it on previous visits to the town but never understood the attraction. So, as the following pictures show we set up camp on the jetty and put together our crabbing pots and lines and off the boys went. It wasn't long before the little crabs were being pulled up. I have to say it was very exciting to see what was in the nets when the boys brought them up. The best catch of the day was when Leighton brought this huge crab up. As you can see all crabs were returned to the sea before we left.

On the cliff top, the Whitby Heritage Committee has been doing a lovely heritage walk which includes these great statues made from crushed chicken wire, a bit like the animals at the Tower of London. I depict some of Whitby's seafaring history. Of course, Whitby wouldn't be Whitby if the Morris Dancers were not out in force. So sunny, artey with jingly strangely dressed dancers made for a great day out.

So, this weekend I am in the babysitting chair big time. Sarah and Lee are jetting off to Naples to celebrate their wedding anniversary and I will be de-camping to Greener Drive until Monday. One thing about their trip I was very jealous about, was being told that Sarah and Lee would be visiting one of my defo bucket list destinations, Pompeii, however, you never know, if I like solo travelling, it may be one place I can tick off my list on my own. Because I won't be around my computer on Saturday I am publishing my blog this week a little early, so enjoy.

Now for your weekly brain teaser. Hidden in this picture there are 5 stars, I have to say this week's challenge is just that I couldn't find all of them - good luck.
