Pumpkin picking ....

It was so cold the other night that I caved in and lit the log burner.

Oh, my days within 10 minutes I was toastie warm with the door into my chilly hall wide open.

It was so warm that the thermostat in the hall reached its temperature (which it rarely does) and switched itself off haha.

So 6 logs and a few bits of kindling kept me lovely and snug all night.

On Saturday Sarah, Harry, Leighton and I went to Baydale Pumpkin Patch to pick out this year's pumpkins. It was a lovely sunny day which was a treat although with recent rain over the past week, it was very muddy underfoot. Defo welly weather. After trawling through the patch we finally selected the 5 pumpkins that we would be happy to sculpt. As a treat, even though the sun was shining it was chilly, we had a hot chocolate and a hot dog from the on-site vendors. On our return to Sarah's the Cockburn family got stuck in with the serious business of carving the perfect pumpkin.

This is the pumpkin I chose and after a bit of handy knife work my finished masterpiece. Later when I returned home it was placed on my front step alongside some small pumpkins I had bought as well. However, I was so in grossed with my TV watching last night that I forgot to light it haha.

I am so proud of my youngest grandchild Robyn.

She has recently developed a fondness for football and has joined several teams including her school football team and plays most weekends.

Like her brother Dominic, she is very enthusiastic and has Ben and Nikki traversing the county to take them to games.

On Saturday Robyn was rewarded with Player of the Match trophy - Well Done Robyn.

The other day Sarah and I had a girl's day out to York. We had a lovely time looking in shops, eating out and of course purchasing a few (non-essential, you don't really need them, but you are getting them anyway ) trinkets. When we walked past the Minister, I noticed that a new statue had been installed of the late queen. I had never seen something like that before and found it both unusual and touching that such a modern statue be placed on such an old building. I would have expected it to have been placed on a plinth in front of the building but not actually incorporated into the fabric of the building.

My decorator spent five days decorating my hall staircase and landing.

He has done a fab job and I am super pleased with the outcome.

I jokingly complained to my kids that he was talking so long.

But at the end of the day he has, filled in any cracks or holes, built up a skirting board, double-coated all the paintwork, double-coated the walls, painted the radiator and papered two walls one in the hall and the other at the top of the stairs.

This week's brain teaser - Can you find the P hiding in amongst the G's?
