Yet another sunny day at the Jungalow, but it was very frosty this morning and the ground is still very white in the shady spots in the garden.
Today the reno moved onto the next stage, which is the plastering. I overslept this morning and was woken by the builder at the door. I think I told you yesterday about answering the door in your nightdress well I broke my cardinal rule and slung on my dressing gown to open the door to my builder. So the plasterers arrived shortly after and got to work. The young labourer asked where he could flush the cleaning water from his plaster mixing bucket. My builder suggested that if he lifted the drain cover at the front gate he could flush it away down there with no problem. And that folks, is where my total embarrassment happened. I think most of you will know where I am going with this, but for those who are still not up to speed with my thoughts when the drain cover was lifted, it revealed that the drain was blocked. I think you can imagine what the builder, plasterer and I were looking at lurking in the bottom of the chamber.
I didn't think you would appreciate a before picture haha. I wouldn't have shown you anyway haha. But you are allowed to see the after picture when the drain had been cleaned out. So what was the culprit, the drain rod cover had come off and fallen into the gulley at the bottom so dramatically impeding the flow of my toilet waste. Added to that a build-up of toilet paper and hey presto when we started to flush water down sewage tsunami !!!!!. So as you can see all is well in the drainage department at The Jungalow.
I have just been for a walk into town to Bisoux hair and nail salon to have my long-awaited nails done. You know me and my fancy nails. Well during lockdown I have been doing my own which have been ok but nowhere near as nice as a professional job.
Nails suitable beautified I had to pop to the bank, as it is probably 8 or 9 months since I was in town I was interested to see if there were any differences. It was a lovely sunny day by now and coming up to lunchtime, A lot of the restaurants around the centre had introduced miniature beer gardens, with white picket fences and tables and chairs right outside their premises. I had heard that this was from last Monday when lockdown started to ease, but it was interesting to see the ways the pubs and restaurants are getting around it. So the roads around Grange Road and Coniscliffe road are closed off to allow these mini beer gardens to pop up. I have to say when I passed there were sizeable ques waiting to get in.
So, close of day 8 and the plasterer has been all morning. He has managed to finish the whole of the ceiling and filled in the areas which had been chased down the wall for the new sockets etc. So in the morning, he will finish under the bay window and then the topcoat of the chased walls, Hopefully, by Sunday I will be able to get a coat of emulsion on the ceiling and walls ahead of the kitchen fitter on Monday.
Oh poo-r you! Glad it’s sorted x
