Wow, this was me this morning. Woke at 5.30 and had the luxury of turning over and adding an extra 4 hours of snoozing to my night.
However, when I did wake I noticed that the sun was up and I had every intention of taking my electric hedge cutters to the mother units house to (pardon the pun) trim her bush haha.
However, fate intervened in the shape of a phone call from Sarah, who is on holiday at the moment, asking if I would like to accompany her and the boys to the River Tees to go net fishing.
I weighed up the two options, go to the mother's house and trim her bushes (gaining millions of brownie points) or go to the river for a picnic and spend quality time with my daughter and two grandsons. I have to say it didn't take me long to make the decision. So Sarah's idea was to just go down to the dam area which would have been the thoughts of countless others. I suggested that we go to Low Coniscliffe to the spot we used to go to when she was little. She was very sceptical and moaned and grumbled until the path we took through the undergrowth opened out onto a stretch of the river with a flat shoreline and no other people in sight. It was perfect. Sarah of course had to eat humble pie and admit that mum sometimes knows best.
It was very hot so that is why I am sporting a pair of Leightons pants on my head, as I had forgotten to take my sun hat. I have to say they were his clean spare pair haha. Leighton also caught a freshwater crayfish which he was very excited about. Of course, they also caught a jar full of minnows. I am pleased to say that no animals were hurt and all returned to the river before we left.
We all called at mums on the way home for a coffee and a catchup. Surprise, surprise, well not really, mum was up a set of step ladders having dismantled her curtain pole to change the curtains. Having been suitably chastised by both Sarah and me we set to work finishing the hanging of the curtains. She will not be told and even at the ripe old age of 89 she still thinks she is invincible.
