This week was the start of my birthday week.
It got off to a brilliant start on Monday, when I went off to Levenbank Alpacs, to take the boys out for a walk.
They were very pungent, I have to say, but most enjoyable. We walked for about thirty minutes at a slow grass-chewing pace haha. We had a very knowledgeable guide called Martin who regaled us with anecdotes and facts about the Alpacs as well as the couple of Llamas that also live with the 31-strong pack at the bottom of Leven Bank.
After a short talk about the do's and don'ts of walking said boys, like not touching them on their bums or making shape movements and loud noises (chance to be kicked) we were off. I have to say the boy I walked was called Iggy, named after Iggy Pop, was determined to be at the front of the pack and made sure he shoved his way there at every opportunity haha. After the walk, the whole group of about 20 people adjourned to the Blue Bell pub in Yarm for lunch so a very nice day to kick off my special week.
On Tuesday I was in town hosting a u3a coffee event in Binns Cafe for new members. It is something which we have introduced to allow our new members to bond away from the hubbub of the main general coffee morning in Bowan Road Centre. On Tuesday 14 members met for coffee. It is working well and is nice to see the members who didn't know anyone before they joined making new connections and friendships. When we came out of Binns Cafe we were entertained by Peter our Town Crier, who was shouting about Saint George's Day and wishing health to King Charles.
On Thursday it was my actual birthday. My day started with a mammoth card and present opening session, then it was off to teach crafting to my u3a ladies in the centre of the town. In the afternoon I had visits from my sister and her husband and the lovely Rita. By the time it got to tea time, I wasn't expecting any more surprises, but of course, Sarah had other ideas as she had decorated her dining room for my birthday experience.
Finally, we reached Friday. After a busy week of activities and making sure everything was finished for Saturday, I met up with my cruise friends for a meal in Tre Ameci. They had travelled up from Suffolk and North London respectively to celebrate with me and were staying at the hotel for two nights. Now all that remains is to put my sparkly dress on and party, party, party. Plenty of photographs will be in next week's blog.
Here is a little something which most of you may know a little of but may not know completely, the Phonetic Alphabet. I am finding more and more that I am spelling out postcodes and names ect using the said alphabet so I thought you would like a look-see as well.
This week's teaser - can you find the missing rabbit?
