After two days of fitting, this is the end result, I am beyond pleased with it. The height of the fireplace looks more in keeping with the room now.
At the beginning of the week I was in a heightened state of excitement, why you may ask, and for once it has nothing to do with the big man in the red suit haha. Well, the day had finally arrived when my log burner was being fitted.
The two lovely guys from the Stove and Fireplace Company arrived Monday morning and set to work.
They moved furniture, rolled carpets back, and covered everything in plastic protective sheets even the hall floor before they started.
They worked brilliantly as a team, one of them always manning the industrial Hoover when there was even a sniff of dust or soot. Hence the whole process has gone really smoothly and I am super thrilled with the results.
The fire surround is now sporting two granite matching boots to the hearth, which brings it up to the required regulation height. I had 2 slim strips of wallpaper to replace down each side of the surround.
As you can see the guys were all over the Jungalow throughout the 2 days even resorting at one point to a cherry picker to fit the new flue liner and cowl to the chimney stack. By Tuesday afternoon they were done and my tutorial on how to work the stove was able to get underway.
First thing Wednesday morning a carpet fitter turned up to relay the carpet around the new hearth, so no stone was left unturned to make sure the job was completed to my satisfaction.
I have to say I would recommend this company for their professionalism and efficiency.
Just a quick revisit to last week, when I posed the baffling question of the ceramic beads at each end of Sarahs scare, which I was puzzling about, we now have an answer.
As we summized her row of stitches was in deed a running stitch tethered by the beads at each end.
When she went to have them out on Wednesday morning they cut one bead off and then pulled the whole stitch line out in one go with the other bead.
Mystery solved.
On Friday afternoon I attend the U3A Christmas Party at Banntynes Hotel. The meal was really nice and afterwards there was some entertainment again very good. This is Jenny my new partner in crime on the committee, we are both New Member Liasons haha.
I ended this week off in Bethlehem and will spend Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings sitting on several bales of straw clutching a pretend baby Jesus, in a sports cupboard draped with curtains to look like a stable. Oh the joys of being a lovey.
Your weekly festive brain teaser
Now for a bit more brain work my lovelies. Hidden somewhere in this picture of Santa is a sheep......
