Well, that was me this morning, I have to say.
I had shared a beautiful four-poster bed with the mother unit who had slept like a baby and I had had a very fitful night trying to sleep under a stifling hot winter quilt. Of course, I spent most of the night on top of the covers trying not to wake mother. Even creeping to the loo on my eyelashes so as not to disturb her. But just as I had managed to drop off to sleep she was up to go to the toilet, lights on crashing and chuntering to herself. So this morning I was a little jaded to say the least, so much so that when I finally got home I went back to bed for a quick power nap before heading off to my sisters for Sunday Lunch.
Anyway back to the wedding. It was a lovely day and night and the bride looked stunning.
Our hotel room does deserve a mention. The main big house housed lots of bedrooms but we were placed in one of the cottage rooms. It was beautiful, with its oak four-poster bed etc, however it was quite a distance from the main part of the hotel. So I arranged with the hotel to have the mother and me chauffeured to and from our room. It all worked well until mother was messing about getting ready for the evening and we ended up missing the cake cutting and the first dance.
During the speeches, I was mentioned and thanked by the groom for all the hard work that I had done with the cake and the making of the invitations, table settings, orders of services etc and of course the cake. I was presented with this gorgeous arrangement of flowers as a thank you which was lovely. Sitting on the table you can just see the small box of chocolates and a small bottle of craft gin which was given to us as a wedding favour, along with the wooden name tag which was on our place setting.
