This morning I went down to Sarah's to pick Harry up for his second maths session. However, Lee hadn't got the memo and Harry was still fast asleep in bed Haha.
So I agreed to go and get him at 1 o'clock. We started our lesson by recapping what he had struggled with yesterday. Believe me, it was still very challenging even though he knew how to do the questions. It got to a point where we had an argument on how to subtract 2 numbers, I showed Harry how to use the new maths methods he uses at school and he was adamant that I was wrong. He didn't believe that you subtracted the small number from the larger number. He was trying to workout 5 take away 8 and wondered why I kept saying you can't do it that way, he insisted that that was the way they did it at school. In the end, he agreed to work it out as I suggested but also insisted that we check the answer on a calculator. So I think a few subtraction problems are in order for tomorrow's session.
I have spent a lot of my day researching, printing out, and laminating materials to try and make learning multiplication tables fun. It took me back to my teaching days when I used to make most of my resources. If any of my teaching blog followers have any ideas on how to make learning tables fun I would be interested to hear from you.
Tonight I am going to be tuning in to a webinar from Reedsy Books. The subject matter tonight is what to look for in a good book editor. So it should be interesting and useful in equal measures
I am still waiting for the delivery of the new chemical wood burning kit and the heat gun I ordered yesterday. Because I ordered from Amazon it will come sometime this afternoon I cant wait to give it a try. If it looks convincing I will be able to control the quality of the etching much better than doing it freehand with the burning tool, and of course, I will be less likely to burn my fingers haha.
