Hurkle Durkling kind of week.....

Whilst watching Breakfast TV on Wednesday morning snuggled up in bed, I was interested in one of the stories they featured.

It was the new book from Countdowns Susie Dent. It was all about words that make you happy or smile, that have fallen out of fashion.

Straight away I was happy to find out that what I was actually doing that morning snuggled up in my new bedding was Hurkle Durkling.

Which actually means to snuggle up in bed long after you should have been up and getting on with your day. Which described exactly what I was doing to a T.

So if you like unusual words that have since fallen out of fashion but are still very much included in our dictionaries this is a book that might interest you. The book has 100 words, but each page, which, is beautifully illustrated has one word with an in-depth description or story about it. So I am going to try and use some unusual words in the blog this week and see if you can spot them haha. Actually, I have made it easy by putting them in a different colour, plus the meanings after them, so not really a challenge after all..

So on Tuesday afternoon, I was attending my latest diabetic clinic and I am afraid to say I was handed my Derriere (bottom) when I was told that my blood sugars were going in the wrong direction and that I really needed to sort out my life in terms of what I put in my mouth haha and what exercises I don't do and should do. So folks with a feeling of Scamu (shame) I have resolved to do better. I have 3 months to prove to my diabetic nurse that I can sort this myself. If I don't Weal (succeed) I will be faced with additional diabetic drugs which I don't really want. So wish me luck, and with my non-exsistant will power I am going to need it.

Last week I bought a lovely little lemon tree to go in my conservatory alongside my already-established orange tree. However, on Monday morning I noticed that the lemon tree was crawling with tiny atelic (horrible) black flies in the compost I had repotted it in. So a bit of googling later I purchased some Sciarid Nematodes. They are a live culture and have to be kept in the fridge until needed. So Wednesday morning I made up the concoction and fed it to my plants now I wait to see if the pesky little flies disappear.

Last week Ben came and ticked off some of the DIY for Mammy list haha. He re-anchored the Narnia Lamp post in the front garden after the winds had sheared the bolts. Then he began the process of repairing the hole in my kitchen wall. It had started with a bubble in the plaster which I tried to repair myself, then some how it morphed into a large piece of missing plaster which went right back to the brick. I think I was over enthusiastic in getting the loose stuff off. Anyway when the first layer has dried he can come and build up the levels again. But first of all this week I took a works field tripout to see the new lock up unit which we have secured for over flow stock and broken IT equipment which is awaiting recycling.

Now for a nice rounding off of the week. It was Jill and Barrys Silver Wedding and they had invited the gang out for a meal at The County in Aycliffe Village to help them celebrate. I have to say it was great seeing those who managed to make it. A great evening was had by all.

And finally this week my son Ben celebrated his 41st birthday, now I really don't know how this is possible as I am only 39 haha (Plus super VAT).

He had a great day and I went up on Friday night to enjoy a fish supper with him and Robyn, Nikki and Dom where in Sunderland watching the Lionesses, a big well done to them for the winning score. And later having watched a film together we broke out the chocolate birthday cake I had brought him and Robyn and I sang happy birthday to him. So a good week all in all.
