Another day of getting up to my phone alarm, and here is me thinking that when you are retired you can get up whenever you please, I guess that is wishful thinking, but I did think I would get the school holidays off at least haha.
So Harry and Leighton are with me again today and when they left last night I told them to come today with an idea that they would like to make in the craft room, so we will see what they come up with. We are going to bake some cakes or biscuits so that will be fun. This afternoon I will be taking them home instead of Sarah picking them up after work as I have been invited to join them for my tea. Harry arrived looking very tired and is at this moment curled up on the couch under a fleecy blanket fast asleep.
Do you remember me telling you about my very kind neighbour who brought me some french beans and cauliflower the other day? Well, yesterday evening he knocked on my door and presented me with 2 trays of eggs. Apparently, his friend rears chickens and waits until they have at least laid one egg before selling them on as egg-laying chickens. The upshot is that he has a large number of small eggs that would go to waste and are too small to sell. So my neighbour said he would distribute them around to his friends and neighbours. I would say that 2 eggs are equivalent to maybe one medium egg. But eggs are eggs and they will be used today during our baking spree.
We decided that we would go with cookies this afternoon, not cakes, so no eggs required haha. Each boy made a ball of shortbread dough and then they chose shapes to cut out. Harry who is into basketball at the moment decorated his biscuits with an edible pen, to make them into basketballs. Leighton added finely chopped crystalised ginger to his dough which tastes amazing.
