Excellent Sunday Lunch

What a marvellous trip down memory lane I have had this afternoon. A couple of days ago my nephew Martin told mum that he had found some bits and pieces that had belonged to my dad in his attic. We all agreed to be stumped, as to why they were there in the first place but were excited to see what he had found. Yesterday Martin brought the papers around to mums and sat and read them to her.

Today she handed them over to me to read. Oh my days, I had no idea that dad had studied at Finchale College let alone received certificates. Most of the work was undertaken around the time of Dave and my wedding in 1975, and yet as an adult, I can honestly say I don't recall him doing them neither can mum for that matter.

To see my dads handwriting and reading them with his voice saying the words inside my head was a great moment for me. He had been taking English and Arithmetic certificates and to actually read the stories he had written was really special. I will now pass these onto my sister Sue to have a read before they go back to mum.

This afternoon I am writing the blog with a glass of Pinot Grigio straight from my little chiller and the sound of thundering and the clash of lightning to accompany the downpour of rain.

Earlier we had gone out for Sunday Lunch, As Sue and Jeff had gone off to visit relations in Liverpool for the weekend. Sarah and her boys, mum and I went to the Hole in the Wall pub on the market square for a meal. The food was absolutely marvellous and of great value at £10 per adult and £5 for children. Loads of either beef, pork or lamb with oodles of veg. Well worth a visit.

We ended the afternoon having coffee in my garden before the rain started.
