This meme today says it all for me, particularly today.
My son-in-law Lee came down with covid a couple of days ago, although he is thrice vaccinated he is still having a rough time with it.
Today my 2 grandsons Harry and Leighton have succumbed also, but Sarah is still valiantly showing negative on her lateral flows. I think that they are all getting PCR tests soon to determine which variant it is.
So I haven't seen them since New Year's Eve so I am hoping I have dodged the bullet.
However, I do appreciate that it can be up to 7 days from contact before things start to turn ugly. So I have taken another lateral flow test today and thus far I am negative. If I can get to Friday then I may be okay. This morning Sarah asked me to pick up some lateral flow tests for her and her family. She sent me the pick codes and after trying 3 chemists who had none, I eventually found my way to the Head of Steam Railway Museum and was able to pick up 2 boxes for them. Later I was talking to my postman and he was saying that he is delivering loads of the tests at the moment, he also said that he had delivered 6 tests to a house 2 days ago and then another 6 to the same house today. Stockpiling is never a good thing, there should be some checks to make sure people are being fair. It is no wonder I was all over Darlington this morning trying to get some.
So bouncing from one medical issue to another. As you may or may not know I am a type 2 diabetic, unfortunately, I have a very sweet tooth, this does not help my condition nor does it help my efforts to lose weight.
This morning I had my follow up diabetic clinic and as expected, my blood glucose readings are on the high side, after Christmas. My nurse asked me if I wanted to take part in a new drug regimen. It is sold as some kind of magical drug. Being sceptical I asked her to explain.
It is called Trulicity (the active drug is dulaglutide) It is a once a week application a little like a finger prick or epi-pen into the thigh or stomach, as such it is a once-only use pen. It releases the drug which works on the hormone GLP-1 which is responsible for releasing insulin into the system.
So it tells the pancreas how much insulin to release, limits how much glucose enters the body from your liver and slows down how quickly food leaves your stomach, making you feel fuller for longer.
So in essence it will control my appetite, sweet cravings and help me to lose weight, whilst controlling my insulin production. I am going to be trying half dose for 3 weeks then if I can tolerate it I will be going onto a full dose.
Anyway, that is my medical dramas, for today haha, I think I will go and have a lie down in a darkened room haha.
