It's been funny old day-to-day.
First thing, the mother unit and I took ourselves off for our weekly ritual shopping spree.
Actually mum was not really up to it this morning but like they say there is no show without punch. It was far too humid for her and she spent a lot of the time sitting in the car with the air con on whilst I dotted in and out of different shops.
So what was I doing all the dotting about for, well Sarah had left it till the last minute to sort Leighton's party stuff out. So I volunteered to do the shopping since I was already out and about.
She wanted a blow-up balloon shaped like a number 9, party favours, banners that sort of thing, unfortunately, I could not get them in the one place, so we had to do a bit of travelling about.
This afternoon I have been making Leighton's birthday cake.
A couple of weeks ago he came to me with the design. Apparently, it is part of a video game which he likes to play called Bugsnax and this particular character is called Daddy Cake Legs.
The most challenging part of the whole cake was the legs. They are made out of skinny candles and had to be glued together with the hot glue gun and left to set.
I am really happy with the results and Leighton was over the moon with his triple chocolate cake, when he came in from school and saw it.
I will be taking the mother unit down to see Leighton tomorrow afternoon after his party to give him his presents.
Sarah had asked me to go up to school today to watch Leighton's sports day. I did not really have the time to drop everything in the middle of decorating the cake but agreed to go so that he would have someone there. When I arrived at school I was told that it had been cancelled, because of the impending rain. We actually had a couple of drops of rain this afternoon and the thunderstorm and torrential rain didn't hit until 4.30, so they could have held the event.
