Chateau Jungalow....not quite yet!!!

Last year when the She Shed was completed I potted up the handcrafted raised flower beds with fragrant lavender, climbing clematis and a black grape vine.

Last year I had a few half-hearted bunches of grapes which didn't come to much, but this year is a completely different story.

There are 7 tiny bunches of grapes which although not very fat have all managed to ripen as you can see from the photos.

As the title suggests I am a considerable way from producing any Chateau Jungalow red wine just yet but who knows in years to come.

At the moment the grapes are more pips than flesh haha.

So here are a few pictures from Saturday afternoon into the evening when I went up to Ben and Nikkis in Aycliffe to celebrate both Dominic and Nikki's birthdays. It was a lovely afternoon with plenty of sunshine so we sat out until it got dark. As you can see both Dominic and Nikki enjoyed blowing out the candles on their respective cakes.

On Tuesday morning I took myself off to a community hall off Bates Avenue to sample the delights of the South Durham U3A.

U3A stands for Unversity of the Third Age and is designed and targeted for retired people. It offers a friendly get-together, a chance to meet new people, and lots of different learning opportunities in the shape of member-led clubs. So this morning I was taken under the wing of a lovely lady called Jenny who enthusiastically showed me the ropes. There was a retired barrister who gave a talk about the justice system which was very interesting and included a few cases he had fought which were both funny and sometimes gory. By the end of the session, I had decided that it was probably worth the £15 p.a. joining fee and £1 per meeting attended, so I will be signing up. I have already agreed to go to the Bay Horse in Midderidge at the end of the month as part of the luncheon club group, so we will see.

On Tuesday I began the coaching of my third grandson Leighton.

Having already tutored Harry and Dominic to get them through their SAT's it was Leighton's turn to get on the hamster wheel.

Leighton is somewhat dyslexic so this book Toe by Toe, which is designed for anyone with reading difficulties, was started. Hopefully by the time we have worked our way through the book his reading will be much better and his decoding skills will have improved. However, he came to our first session with the learned behaviour from watching his brother 2 years ago and was twisting and niggling that he wasn't going to do it. Of course, he did do it and soon realised that I wasn't taking any prisoners and he wasn't going anywhere until we were finished haha.

On Wednesday I had a morning meeting with Rita. Usually these meeting are to discuss up coming events we are planning, but this one was just for breakfast. We went to Maggies in Duke Sreet and had a great catch up and a fine breakfast to boot - yummmy.
