I was hopeful last night when I finally got to bed that I would at least be able to go to sleep at a reasonable time therefore waking and getting up at a time which was earlier than 10.05 as yesterday was. Mission accomplished and I was up and at it by 8.30.
I decided to take the mother unit to the Company Shop with me today. She has not been yet and both Sue and I keep going on about the bargains we have been getting so I am taking her for a look around. We spent a good hour and mother announced rather loudly that it was no more than a supermarket and she didn't like it haha.
Oh my days, I think I will have to employ this guy in my kitchen. There was a strange smell in the kitchen this morning and I set about investigating its origin. So sniffing in the fridge - nope, the sink drains - nope, the trash bin - nope could not find it anywhere.
There appeared to be more flies than usual but I didn't give it a thought as the doors to the garden were open.
When I was about to make dinner I was stood in front of the hob and could hear very angry buzzing.
I traced it to the inside of the cooker hood. I removed the grill and several flies flew out but the noise was deafening. I sprayed nearly half a can of fly spray into the cooker hood and cowl, replaced the grill and waited until it went quiet. I phoned the kids to tell them and Ben came up with a very plausible theory which we will be investigating next time he is round. He summarised that an animal had crawled into the vent duct and died (possible cause of smell) then a fly had laid eggs in the unfortunate creature and subsequently the eggs had hatched into lots of flies. It actually turns my stomach to think of the possibility but it does seem like a logical explanation. So next time Ben is visiting we will be taking the cooker hood apart. As the hood is sealed I am okay with using it for a couple of days until it can be checked out.
The mother units arm is still sore and is omitting pale green puss although she says it doesn't really hurt. There is no evidence of swelling or redness around the graze but I am having the devils own job of persuading her to keep it covered. She is of the old school that letting the air to it will heal it. If it was a simple cut I would probably agree but this is a significant patch of raw flesh. I have tried to get in touch with her doctor but they are not even answering the phone. So today as a last resort before taking her to A&E I have completed an e-consult request with her surgery. So we will see what comes of that.
