Well, the rain has certainly done a number on my garden.
Like many of us, our gardens are looking a little soggy of late.
Unfortunately for me, my jungalow is built on a swath of clay, it affects several bungalows in the grove so when it rains we get standing water once the ground has become saturated.
So this is my hoster bed at the front of the Jungalow, they have all managed to poke through this year but I don't know how many will survive. Add to that the piles of tiles that have been dumped around them over the last four weeks and the work boots that have trampled them underfoot, and I am not holding out much hope. The back garden is much the same giving the feeling of living in a property with a moat haha.
The roof is finally finished, and I have to say I am thrilled with the result. The first shot shows what the roof looked like 4 weeks ago, and what it looks like now, as you can see the new roof looks spectacular. Even the new dry valley looks cool, no more mortaring the valleys, ridges and hips. When the guys had finished the roof they set to work cleaning up. Sweeping, picking every nail up they could find, pressure washing the conservatory roof, emptying gutters of debris, washing the window frames and so it went on. It was a joy to see the old roof being loaded onto the low loader and on Thursday this week, the scaffolding came down to reveal the finished article. it was like getting a huge Christmas present and peeling back the layers to reveal your gift haha. One shot that I was intrigued with is the last one which reveals the box within the roof that is the Princess Tower.
This week saw the production of a two-tier wedding cake. From the tins stacked in the planning stage to show the bride how it was going to look, to the finished cake. I now have to pack it carefully in a special wedding cake travel box ahead of its long journey down to Leeds and the wedding reception. But I am glad to say that is not my problem once it has left the Jungalow.
It has always intrigued me how chefs estimate the doneness of steaks. I have been told it's pinching the fleshy inside of your hand between thumb and index finger but I could never get that quite right. So here is a little chart that may or may not clear up the dilemma haha.
This week's teaser, can you find the bell ringer?
