This morning I was very positive I woke with the knowledge that the kitchen fitter would start today and the kitchen renovation would move into the exciting phase.
Sarah had asked me to take the boys to school this morning so that was my first port of call. By the time I returned both builder and kitchen fitter was on-site and beavering away.
I have to say the kitchen fitter made short shrift of dismantling the kitchen. Eighteen months ago he had installed it so he had a slight advantage haha. By eleven o'clock he had destroyed the kitchen lol and asked me if I had any problem not having a sink or hob. Of course not I replied eating is highly overrated anyway.
So it all began with the delivery from Howdens. Could not believe the amount of stuff they dropped off considering I am reusing 90% of my old kitchen. I have estimated that we will have to return £650 worth of plinths, cornice and deco end panels at least. That's before we sort the rest of the stuff out.
Anyway, things have been going great over the last two weeks and I guess my builder put the demon kibosh on it when he said as much because today we uncovered a potentially huge problem.
As the kitchen fitter was removing the decorative backsplash he noticed that the wall behind was wet and black with mould, not good. So what is on the other side of the wall - the shower. My builder is hoping that it is just condensation from the decorative panel behind the hob and not a leak in the shower, we won't know for sure until the kitchen is empty and the wall has had a couple of days to dry out.
If the worst comes to the worst the builder will have to remove a large portion of the kitchen wall to check the pipework which feeds the shower to make sure that we have no leaks.
So by the end of play today my kitchen is reduced to this, so I guess no one is eating tonight haha.
Actually, I think I have broken my builder because he announced today that he was retiring after he has finished my kitchen haha.
By the end of play tomorrow a lot of the new kitchen will be in place and I will get the first glimpse of what I have been dreaming about for the past 9 weeks.
I will be so pleased to start putting things back in cupboards etc and cleaning stuff as there is a thin layer of dust everywhere.
So, it being Monday, it is my turn to feed the mother unit. Obviously, I can't feed her here as I have no facilities so it's going to be meals on wheels as I will be taking the food to her to cook.
