Last night my 89-year-old neighbour rang me to ask my advice. She and her husband like lots of others lost their radio and TV signal after the fire at Bilesgate last week.
They had been living without TV since that time, going to bed at 9.30. She had been in contact with an aerial firm who pursued her that she needed a new aerial, they wanted to charge her £240 to install a Satellite dish. This turned out to be a scam she does not need a dish. So my visit this morning was in time to stop her agreeing and she was able to cancel the visit.
Several of our neighbours had been into her house over the last few days to see if they could retune the aerial but with no success.
So where do I come in, well I rode into the Melia this morning after consulting Ben last night about what could possibly be done? Following Bens advice, I had returned her TV to the digital signal in no time. There are a couple of channels I couldn't get back, but I will ask Ben to pop in and see her on Saturday when he is around. Of course, she told her husband in no uncertain terms that a woman was best at solving problems haha. Well, 2 hours later I left the house laden with biscuits and plant cuttings so another 1,000000 brownie points were gained towards my public service badges lol.
Yet another Government department is decamping from London to Darlington shortly, the Department of Statistics will join the Treasury and the Department for International Trade. It is an exciting development for Darlington and will mean a lot of jobs will become available for local people.
After this mornings escapades |I have had a reasonably quiet afternoon, but will be leaving soon to pick up the mother unit to bring her back to the Jungalow for her tea. We are having breaded chicken breast with seasonal veg followed by strawberries. Then at 7 o'clock, I will return her to her bungalow where we will be joined by Sue for our weekly card game.
